About me - the human behind
That’s Italian

Ciao! I’m Carlo - Italian tutor, language lover, theatre enthusiast… and the entire team behind That’s Italian. I was born in sunny Puglia, in the south of Italy (where the tomatoes taste like actual sunshine), and later moved to Milan to study Italian Literature, Linguistics, and Theatre. It might sound like a mouthful, but for me, it was a natural mix: I’ve always believed that language is about more than just rules - it’s about rhythm, expression, and connection.

I now live in Edinburgh with John, my Scottish husband, and our dog, Luna (she doesn’t speak Italian fluently yet, but she’s working on it). I may have swapped the warmth of southern Italy for the ever-changing skies of Scotland, but I bring all the southern sun I can into my lessons. Yes, I still complain about the weather - but always with a smile.

In my classes, expect a mix of language, culture, creativity, and the occasional bit of theatre. I use performance techniques to help students build confidence and speak more naturally - even when they're still figuring things out. Mistakes are welcome. Curiosity is essential. And fun is guaranteed.
